Step 4: Shipping
After encapsulation, the magazines return to the Grading Department for a quality control inspection. Each label is examined to ensure that the grade and any accompanying descriptive information are accurate. The quality control specialist also inspects each holder for any flaws, such as scuffs or nicks. Such imperfections are rare, but CGC is committed to providing attractive presentation.
Following inspection, the magazines are delivered to our Shipping Department for packaging. The magazines are counted and the labels are checked against the original hand-written or typed invoices. The barcode of every single CGC-certified magazine is then scanned to record its shipment. In this way, we double-verify that invoices are shipped complete and that no errors have occured.
A Shipping Department employee reconfirms the selected method of transport, indicated by the submitter on the invoice. Whether the US Postal Service or a private carrier is used, the method of packaging is essentially the same. The encapsulated magazines are placed vertically inside custom-designed boxes made of very sturdy cardboard.
